Project summary:
Nearby Misaligned AGN (MAGN) are ideal laboratories to study the physical processes occurring in the vicinity of supermassive black holes. In radio galaxies, unlike in blazars, projection and relativistic effects have a mild impact on the observed jet emission, which enables us to more easily infer the intrinsic jet properties and to probe emitting regions that would be otherwise hidden. We conduct millimeter-VLBI studies of MAGN detected by the Fermi-LAT telescope at γ-ray energies, with the aim of characterizing the jet internal structure, pinpointing the high-energy emission sites, and modeling the broadband emission. Moreover, thanks to VLBI monitoring programs such as MOJAVE, we are also able to infer the differences in the magnetic field distribution and in the shock formation and propagation.

About me:
I am from Florence, Italy, and completed my bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Bologna in Astronomy and in Astrophysics and Cosmology, respectively. During my master’s, I undertook a multidisciplinary internship in collaboration with CERN and YNAP aimed at fostering confidence among young women pursuing STEM research. For my master’s thesis, I spent time at IAA-CSIC in Granada under the supervision of Dr. J. L. Gómez and Dr. R. Lico, and I completed the thesis in Bologna under Prof. D. Dallacasa and Dr. M. Giroletti: “Multiwavelength analysis of the radio source 3C 111 through VLBA observations” (https://amslaurea.unibo.it/25356/). I am currently pursuing a PhD on the connection between accretion mode, jet structure, and gamma-ray emission in radio galaxies, supervised by Dr. Bia Boccardi and Prof. Anton Zensus.
