Information for media professionals and astronomy enthusiasts

Do you work in the press, prepare astronomy topics for videos and other media, or are you generally interested in (radio) astronomy? Then you are warmly invited to explore the “For Media and the Public” pages. Here you will find easily understandable definitions and various informational materials that – with proper credit to the author – may be used for science communication.

On the “What is Radio Astronomy?” page, you will learn, among other things, what radio waves are, where they are found in the electromagnetic spectrum, and how radio astronomy differs from optical astronomy.

The “Radio Astronomy from A to Z” section contains a list of terms that we use daily in radio astronomy and that frequently appear in our press releases. For each term, you will find a definition, further information, and topic-specific links.

We also provide informational materials on our website in various formats – some of them available for download. If you have any questions or need additional information or materials, our press and public relations team will be happy to assist you.
