Spectral Response

LABOCA is designed for observations in the submillimetric atmospheric window at 870 micron (345 GHz).

Bolometers are broad band detectors and a set of filters is needed to define the passband of LABOCA. Moreover, the circular wave guides embedded in the conical horn antennas act as high-pass filters providing a well defined cut-off at the low frequency side of the passband. The plot below shows the actual passband of LABOCA (transmission normalized to the maximum).

For comparison, the graph below shows the spectral response of channel 1 of the MPIfR 870 micron 19-element bolometer array (used for observations at the HHT between 2000 and 2003) and the SCUBA spectral response (data publicly available on the JCMT website). Both receivers where operated in the same atmospheric window as LABOCA.
