The Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy (MPIfR), the Argelander-Institut für Astronomie (AIfA) of the University of Bonn and the 1st Physics Institute of the University of Cologne participate in numerous international collaborations. The Research School students can take advantage of the provided opportunities to profile themselves at international level. For instance, observational astrophysicists perform observing campaigns at different sites, such as Pico Veleta (Spain), APEX (Chile), Urumqi (China), etc. The participating institutions are nodes of European Union funded research networks, such as ESTRELA, an early stage training site from the Marie Curie Program, in collaboration with the Jodrell Bank Observatory at the University of Manchester (United Kingdom), Onsala Space Observatory at the Chalmers Technical University (Sweden), ASTRON and JIVE in Dwingeloo (Netherlands), and the Istituto di Radioastronomia in Bologna (Italy).
The IMPRS, as the MPIfR and the both partner universities, is networked in the international astrophysical context, and the opportunities are countless in this context. Moreover, during their study the students should attend at least one summer school on their research field and one international conference.
Bonn hosts regularly workshops and international astrophysical conferences which offer visibility to the students. One clear example is the yearly Bonn-Dwingeloo meeting on VLBI-related topics, which provides a regular contact to ASTRON and JIVE for the students, postdocs and staff member from both sites. Just to conclude, it should be remarked that most of the former Research School students became postdoctoral fellows in other institutes which collaborate regularly with the MPIfR, the AIfA and the 1st Physics Institute in Cologne.
