Here is a useful map of the MPIfR's

There is a shuttle going between the MPIfR and
Effelsberg from Mondays
to Fridays. In general, the shuttle leaves in the morning at ~ 09:00
and
returns around noon. However, since this depends on
available
manpower a regular service cannot be guaranteed. If you wish to use
this
shuttle, please contact us well in advance.
A short description how to find the
way:
From the institute Auf dem Hügel turn
right at the traffic
lights to Hermann-Wandersleb-Ring. Go ahead until you get on
motor
way #565 (direction "Altenahr", "Koblenz"). Leave #565 at
exit (10) Meckenheim/Nord and drive to Rheinbach. Find
your
way through Rheinbach to Merzbach. Go ahead through Neukirchen
and Scheuren, and ignore the sign "Radioteleskop" until
you
get to Scheuerheck. Just behind Scheuerheck there is a rotary.
From
that point follow the sign "Radioteleskop".
Reaching Effelsberg by public transport from Bonn:
During
working hours and Saturdays morning
Train from Bonn Hbf till Bad Münstereifel,
continue by AST taxi (order the taxi ~30 minutes before by phone: 01804
151515).
The AST taxi leaves you in the village of Effelsberg (price ~2.90 €,
1.00 € for students).
This is a regular service and can be found on the Deutsche Bahn (www.db.de)
website (search Bonn to
Effelsberg).
During
evenings and on weekends
The AST taxi doesn't go, but instead there is a "Sammeltaxi".
You can find out the schedule by calling the taxi number listed above.
The Sammeltaxi will bring you till the telescope (2.30 € for students).
Using the db website: one should search for transport between Bonn and
Bad Münstereifel, entering Effelsberg will give no hits.
