Proceedings

The conference proceedings will be published in the Springer-Verlag series "ESO Astrophysics Symposia"

Deadline for contribution submission: 15 July 2004
Obtaining the LaTeX macro package
Contributions must be typeset using LaTeX macro package available from the Berlin conference ftp host at: ftp://ftp.mpifr-bonn.mpg.de/outgoing/berlin04/proceedings/.
Please use the "Save as" option if retrieving files using a web browser. If you are using the ftp protocol, please do the following steps:

  ftp ftp.mpifr-bonn.mpg.de
  login: anonymous
  password: your email
  cd outgoing/berlin04/proceedings
  binary
  prompt
  mget *
  quit

Using the LaTeX macro package
• The files ReadMe.pdf (pdf format) and ReadMe.doc (MS Word format) contain detailed instructions for authors.
• The file author.tex contains a sample contribution, which can be used as a template for your own text. The files author.dvi and author.ps are the .dvi and .ps files generated by running LaTeX and dvips on author.tex. The file figure.eps is a sample figure.
• Figures must be provided as PostScript files and should be incorporated in your contribution using the standard Latex2e graphicx package as demonstrated in the demo file author.tex.
• Please use the following naming convention for your files: The Latex file of your text should be called myname.tex, where myname (all in lower-case) is the family name of the first author. Any figures should be named mynameF1.ps (or .eps), mynameF2a.ps etc, for figure 1, figure 2a, etc.
• Please DO NOT change the macros, as this can cause unpredictable effects when the individual contributions are compiled together to produce the final manuscript.
• Usage of the TeX \def and the LaTeX2e \renewcommand commands is forbidden!
• Personal LaTeX2e command definitions using \newcommand are allowed, but should be kept to an absolute minimum, and made uniquely identifiable by appending your name to the command.

Page limits
The page limits for the Berlin proceedings are as follows: reviews - 16 pages; summaries - 8 pages; talks - 4 pages; posters - 2 pages. It is anticipated that some editorial overview will be exercised and authors may be requested to make changes to their manuscripts.

Color illustrations
Because of the high cost of printing color plates, only a very limited number of color illustrations will be accepted, and only if there is a strong scientific justification. Please contact the editors of the proceedings ahead of time, if you would like to include a color illustration in your contribution

Contribution submission
Please submit the LaTeX source file of your contribution, and PostScript files of any figures, via ftp as follows:
  ftp ftp.mpifr-bonn.mpg.de
  login: anonymous
  password: your email
  cd incoming/berlin04
Please upload all your files in this directory using the naming convention explained above.
